I recently had my hearing tested at Mission Audiology and as I thought, had significant loss. With the expert help of Dr. Kathleen Sullivan, and a pair of prescribed hearing aids, I have rejoined society and am loving it. I was somewhat afraid of feeling "old" with hearings aids and of how much they would show because I wear my hair short, cut around my ears. No one notices them! And the people I've shown them to swear they didn't notice, but they did notice I wasn't saying "huh? What?" much anymore. I've been to parties with lots of people over the holidays and could tune in to specific conversations instead of nodding and smilling.
Don't wait until you can't hear the newspaper crinkle or someone walking across a wood floor (the sudden presence of everyday background noise is the reason many older people can't get used to their hearing aids, they've been so deaf for so long, those everyday constant noises sound like explosions to them). If you suspect you have a hearing loss, don't wait, talk with Dr. Sullivan about testing, options, costs, etc. It may change your life; it did mine.
